Overview of DanceWorks
CPT is gearing up for the 2009-2010 season and DanceWorks 10 is an important part of that season. DanceWorks offers dance companies and choreographers the opportunity to have their works presented in a series with other local dance companies.

CPT will select four or more groups to be part of DanceWorks 10. Each of these groups gets either the Gordon Square Theatre or James Levin Theatre for one week: Monday through Wednesday for load-in and rehearsal, and Thursday through Sunday for performances. This year's series will be offered March 29 - April 18, 2010.

CPT continues to work to maximize the impact of this series while keeping it sustainable organizationally. We want to find the best way to serve presented groups and our audiences while keeping within the limits of CPT's technical staff and resources. Both theatres will be set-up with a repertory lighting plot suitable for dance. Companies may alter that set-up; however, they must then take full responsibility for implementing their own set-up and restoring the space for the following company.

Please note CPT will accept applications for shorter works to be included in a shared evening of up to three artists or groups. If you are interested in this option please clearly note this in your application. Groups that share an evening will need to share revenue, rehearsal time, and technical time.

It is up to each project to provide its own artistic collaborators and additional technical staff as needed. CPT will provide an in-house stage manager. CPT also provides box office and house management staff.

Although CPT produces a direct mail piece advertising all of DanceWorks, it is up to the individual companies to promote their own show. CPT will also send out press releases for listings and do what we can to assist and coordinate marketing efforts.

The net box office receipts will be split 60% for the dance company and 40% for CPT; however, each group will be provided with a box office guarantee of $1,000 in advance. (Projects which share an evening will receive a smaller guarantee and a smaller cut of box office: 2 groups: 30/30/40 with a $600 advance or 3 groups: 20/20/20/40 with a $500 advance.) Each dance company may also create a discount or special offer for their patrons.

Selection:
The purpose of DanceWorks is to serve existing and emerging dance companies and choreographers in Cleveland. DanceWorks seeks to represent a diversity of forms, genres, and aesthetic values. We want to create an environment where companies can boldly experiment and stretch beyond their past repertory. DanceWorks performances should be high quality work; they should be well thought-out, rehearsed and prepared. CPT provides a separate series called Big [BOX] which may include work that is earlier in its development.

Two major factors in selecting works are capability and impact. Companies should demonstrate that they have experienced personnel capable of independently managing your production needs, including sound, lighting, and stage needs. CPT is looking for companies that can organize their needs and resources in an effective way that allows them to be fully prepared.

DanceWorks is about new work and all companies must have at least one major premiere in their evening.

In the application, companies should demonstrate that they have experienced personnel capable of independently managing production requirements including sound, lighting, and stage needs.

CPT expends a great deal of resources to make DanceWorks happen and we want that effort to have the best possible result in the community. We are looking for projects for which DanceWorks will provide a significant impact.
