13nordpwfCleveland Public Theatre, Northeast Ohio’s most innovative and adventurous theatre is proud to announce The Nord Playwright Fellowship funded by a generous grant from The Nord Family Foundation.
The Nord Playwright Fellowship, a year-long program for emerging playwrights from Northeast Ohio, raises CPT’s new play development program to an even higher level. Fellows are given space at the theatre to write, create and rehearse. Executive Artistic Director Raymond Bobgan is proud to announce Juliette Regnier as the inaugural Nord Playwright Fellow. Over the course of a year, Ms. Regnier will be interacting with and learning from designers, actors, directors and other writers. She will also have opportunities to have her work staged at a variety of points in the process. Ms. Regnier will receive an award of $3,000 and full underwriting of all her learning and artistic activities during the fellowship.

“Juliette is a great inaugural Playwright Fellow because she embodies so many of the values we cherish here at CPT. It’s not just about being a great artist, but it’s about caring, integrity, dedication and respect for the craft of theatre,” announced Executive Artistic Director Raymond Bobgan.

CPT new play development ranges from The Dark Room, a community run effort that brings playwrights, actors, directors and audience members together to experience spontaneous readings of new works, to six or more full productions of new plays. In between we have: Springboard, a staged reading series; Leap/Conceive, a showcase for devised work; and Big Box, 7-9 weeks of a diverse range of new works from music, to theatre, to dance presented at a workshop level just short of full production.

JULIETTE REGNIER, a local actress turned playwright, studied with the Moscow Art Theatre at Harvard University and taught undergraduate acting at Case Western Reserve University for nine years. More recently, Juliette has been focusing on a play trilogy. The first of which, Shorn, debuted in 2007 at Dobama Theatre. In 2009 her writing was deemed fellowship ready by the Community Arts and Culture. She is very excited to have the opportunity of this residency to devote time and energy to the trilogy with the support of Cleveland Public Theatre.
