I WENT DOWN TO THE WATER AND FOUND MYSELFIE THERE

CREATED AND PERFORMED BY MARCIA CUSTER.
DIRECTED BY JEREMY PAUL.

A one-woman avant-musical tragicomedy about the internet – that’s also a self-help beauty pageant for the soul. Learn how to take the perfect selfie and practice self-care with performance artist and accredited interweb life-coach, Marcia Custer!

Featuring Marcia Custer

Marcia Custer is a Cleveland-based sound and performance artist who builds up and plays within worlds of psychic chaos and physical comedy that are sweet, whimsical, perverse and grotesque. Through live on-stage music looping and movement, she invites you into these worlds, where you can sit comfortably, side-by side, and poke at absurdities in real time. Her original work most recently premiered at Vox Populi and the Headlong Performance Institute’s Final Showcase No, And- (Philadelphia, PA), Theater Ninjas’ Broken Codes, Expedition: SPACES and The Movement Project’s New Works (Cleveland, OH). She is a recent graduate of the Headlong Performance Institute in Philadelphia and has a B.A. in Dance from Kent State University, where she received School of Theatre and Dance Scholarship Awards for excellence in creative work and outstanding choreographer. She currently sings in the noisy glampop band Half an Animal and collaborates with experimental performance group SPACEBEACH.

Neither There, Nor Here

Conceived and Directed by Sherrine Azab with A Host of People.

How do you create your own culture? This theatrical mashup—part-play, part-cooking show—shares the personal stories and experiences of those who exist within a mixed identity—racial, ethnic, cultural and beyond. The show celebrates multiplicity and community, while concocting a hybrid culinary dish to share with the audience. www.ahostofpeople.org

Featuring A Host of People ensemble
Projection Design: Jake Hooker
Set & Costume Design: Dorothy Melander-Dayton

A Host of People is the collaboration between Sherrine Azab and Jake Hooker and, thankfully, a host of people. The company makes original theater that is site-responsive, multi-media, interdisciplinary and immersive. They create imaginative experiences for their audiences that are at once intimate and epic, contemplative and participatory, artful and entertaining. Azab, Hooker and A Host of People have worked everywhere from a disused hair salon in Berlin to a storefront window in Times Square to traditional performance spaces like the Bushwick Starr and the Chocolate Factory (New York), Ida Nowhere (Berlin), and the Play House (Detroit) to their own home and many spots in-between.

The goal of Test Flight is to support new work and local/national/international artists.

CPT provides:
– The James Levin Theatre
– Basic production staff, stage management, box office support
– Marketing and advertising support

The artists provide the rest!

The writers, directors, actors and designers selected for Test Flight dedicate themselves to creating new and original work, or stretching their artistic powers by working in new disciplines.
