Content Warning: DanceWorks is a presented series, which means we don’t always know the content entirely. CPT supports art in development, as well as social justice oriented-work, and sensitive material may be explored. Because of the nature of art in development, we can’t provide additional content warnings for DanceWorks performances.

WEEK 3: Inlet Dance Theatre

CONNECTIONS

We live in a world filled with AI, fake news, and virtual “reality.” Yet humans are born wired for connection–it’s in our DNA, as strong a need as food, water, and shelter. Inlet’s concert is real. Real Bodies, real space, and real connections. Connections improve physical and mental health, enhance well-being and happiness, and foster personal and professional growth. Connections lower our stress, anxiety, and depression, raise our self-esteem, improve our immune function, and help us regulate our emotions. Connections also give us support, guidance, and fresh perspectives. This curated selection of works and premieres explores connections as an antidote to the toxic, divisive world we are living in.

ABOUT INLET DANCE THEATre

Inlet Dance Theatre is one of the most unique professional contemporary dance companies hailing from the Midwest because Inlet’s ensemble-based culture, rooted in American Modern Dance, purposefully focuses on craftsmanship and mastery while employing a collaborative creative process to develop new work. Founded in Cleveland (OH) in 2001 by Executive/Artistic Director Bill Wade, Inlet embodies his long-standing belief that a collaborative creative process is more inclusive than the traditional autocratic leadership hierarchy and results in surprisingly diverse work. Inlet’s repertory intentionally speaks creatively about human life issues in a life-giving manner. The company presents a wide aesthetic range of works, from abstract to narrative, that speak to what could be rather than only what is. Inlet develops and teaches people from the inside out in the company’s design-centric programming, “using dance to further people.”
