Manager of Grants and Municipal Relations Job Description
This role is a year-round, salaried, staff position reporting to the Director of Development.
The Manager of Grants and Municipal Relations prepares proposals, reports, and other materials for foundation, government, and corporate donors; manages CPT’s grant calendar including all deadlines; and oversees processes relating to city funding contracts. This position is responsible for supporting CPT in achieving its fundraising goals, with a focus on grant writing and relationships with city employees. Duties also include the production of correspondence and support documents in relation to grants as well as funder research, database maintenance, proofreading and editing, and some administrative responsibilities.
Salary range is $45,000-55,000 commensurate with experience and skillset. RESPONSIBILITIES
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages organization’s internal Grants Calendar, tracking all deadlines and required documentation to ensure timely submissions
- Drafts funding requests and updates on behalf of Cleveland Public Theatre’s general operations, education programs, community ensembles, and artistic initiatives
- Maintains and organizes narrative files for future use
- Manages contracts with city and community partners for education and public outreach programs, including application, filing government documentation, reporting, and invoicing
- Builds and maintains productive relationships with city employees
- Collaborates with Finance team to ensure that grant budgets are received from EAD/DoD/Finance before needed for grant submission, creating templates and drafting reports as needed
- Produces grant-related correspondence such as thank you letters, inquiries, and cover letters
- Prepares complete application packages, including assembling, filing, and mailing materials
- Performs annual Grants Calendar audit, with support from DoD
- Coordinates with Development staff and other departments to gather program data, statistics, and supplemental materials
- Maintains detailed education and artistic records in collaboration with other departments
- Enters grants and maintains donor information in CRM database
- Researches and identifies new funding sources
- Other duties as assigned
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides administrative support, including the maintenance of grant-related files, correspondence, and paperwork
- Copy edits and proofreads proposals, applications, reports, and other documents
- Staffs special events alongside other CPT team members
- Attends meetings and takes notes when necessary
- Maintains good work habits, including promptness, adherence to CPT workplace policies, preparedness for meetings and events, and responsive follow-through on all donor, supervisor, and staff requests
- Maintains a positive attitude with donors and staff
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS

- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- CRM database experience preferred but not required
- Background in—or knowledge of—theatre arts preferred but not required

CPT is an internationally recognized center for contemporary performance. Our mission is to raise consciousness and nurture compassion through groundbreaking performances and life-changing education programs. CPT implements this mission through our theatrical season, featuring between 8–20 adventurous professional productions and a robust series of new play development programs that support writers and devisers at multiple points in the creative process.
Historically, a majority of plays produced at CPT are by BIPOC artists and women. In the past three years, CPT has undertaken work to accelerate and formalize its growth to becoming a fully anti-racist organization, engaging all staff, board, and artists in that work. Our acclaimed education programs engage communities in devising new works that speak to contemporary issues and empower participants to work for positive change in our community. CPT is home to Cleveland CORE Ensemble as well as community ensembles Teatro Público de Cleveland and Masrah Cleveland Al-Arabi. We annually present the Día de Muertos Festival, a large-scale community arts event, as well as other events in our neighborhood. CPT’s annual budget is around $3 million per year. We currently have 21 full-time staff members.
