CLEVELAND PUBLIC THEATRE IS HIRING FRONT OF HOUSE STAFF

Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) is hiring Front of House (FOH) staff, key members of the CPT team who make meaningful contributions to the CPT Patron Experience. This is a part-time, seasonal position from January to May, with options to renew employment for the following season based on performance.

Hours depend on production schedules but will typically involve Thursday-Saturday and Monday evenings for approximately 3-6 hours per night. Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evening shifts also occur on occasion. FOH staff also work special events outside of the general season (Pandemonium, Station Hope, event rentals, etc.).

Pay is $15.00/hour. Anticipated start date is January 20th, 2025. Application deadline is Wednesday, December 4, 2024.

JOB DESCRIPTION 

FOH staff will have the opportunity to work in two roles that have transferable skillsets while working at CPT: Bar Manager and Box Office Associate. CPT provides comprehensive training for both roles. Prior experience is preferred, but not required. See below for detailed descriptions of both roles.  

The Bar Manager elevates the CPT Patron Experience by providing quick, efficient, and friendly service with a smile and a keen eye for detail. 

Duties include:  

  • Maintaining the integrity of CPT’s spaces including:  
  • Arriving promptly on time prior to the house opening to set-up.   
  • Restocking the display fridge and bar as needed.  
  • Maintaining, cleaning, and restocking the complimentary, self-serve Keurig station.  
  • Keeping the bar area and lobby clean and presentable.  
  • Guaranteeing the best possible CPT Patron Experience by:  
  • Serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and concessions to patrons before the performance, at intermission, and after the show.  
  • Dating all opened wines and properly sealing them.  
  • When selling and restocking products, prioritize products that will be expiring soonest.  
  • Assist in facilitating opening night receptions and/or pre-show receptions.  
  • When not actively serving patrons, being available to the House Manager for various projects/tasks.  
  • Maintaining accurate records by:  
  • Balancing the cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift.  
  • Filling out bar reports accurately and efficiently.  
  • Other duties as assigned.  

The Box Office Associate elevates the CPT Patron Experience by being the first to welcome patrons into the theatre with a smile, and quickly and efficiently handling any questions or concerns patrons might have to ensure they have the best night possible.   

Duties include:  

  • Maintaining the integrity of CPT’s spaces including:  
  • Arriving promptly on time prior to the box office opening to set-up.  
  • Printing out all will-call tickets for each performance that day and organizing them by last name.  
  • Keeping box office and lobby area clean and presentable.  
  • Guaranteeing the best possible CPT Patron Experience by:  
  • Balance taking walk-up sales with handing out will-call tickets.  
  • Setting up and maintaining a waitlist on sold-out performance nights.  
  • Monitoring the box office after the show begins to assist patrons arriving during late seating.  
  • Greeting ushers and helping them navigate to their assigned theatre.  
  • Helping patrons navigate the performances spaces.  
  • Maintaining accurate records by:  
  • Balancing the cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift.  
  • Filling out box office reports accurately and efficiently.  
  • Other duties as assigned.  

The Ideal Candidates Will Possess: 

  • Flexible availability. 
  • Cash and credit card handling skills. 
  • Prior customer service and/or food service experience preferred.  
  • Poise, professionalism, and approachability in a fast-paced environment. 
  • The ability to work quickly and efficiently with a smile.  
  • Excellent communication skills and a warm demeanor.  
  • The ability to be a team player.  
  • Passion for or a background in the performing arts. 
  • Passion for Cleveland and enacting positive change in the community.  
  • Familiarity with CPT and the Gordon Square Arts district a plus.  
  • Prior experience with Square POS system a plus.  
  • Prior experience with Spektrix or other equivalent ticketing software a plus.  
  • The ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
