Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) is seeking a Facilities Manager who enjoys solving problems, caring for complex spaces, and helping other people do their best work. The Facilities Manager is a core member of the CPT staff and plays a vital role in making our campus safe, functional, welcoming, and ready for artists, audiences, staff, and community partners. This is a hands-on management position for someone who can lead people and vendors, build reliable systems, and also step in to troubleshoot and complete repairs when needed.
Position Overview
CPT’s campus includes three buildings, a parking lot, four performance venues, multiple rehearsal and event spaces, and offices. It is an active, creative campus where the needs can change quickly: a typical week might include preventive maintenance, coordinating a contractor, preparing spaces for performances, solving an unexpected building issue, and planning the facilities operation for a major festival. The Facilities Manager oversees the care, maintenance, repair, cleanliness, and day-to-day functionality of these spaces while helping the campus work well for the people who use it.
This is both a management and a hands-on role. The Facilities Manager should be comfortable moving between planning, staff supervision, vendor coordination, administrative follow-through while also filling in for janitorial staff and undertaking simple repairs. We are looking for someone who takes pride in making things work, communicates clearly, follows through, and enjoys being part of a creative organization where no two days are exactly alike.
Reporting & Supervision
• Reports directly to the General Manager and collaborates closely with staff across Production, Artistic, Education, Audience Engagement, Development, and Operations.
• Supervises facilities and janitorial staff, including part-time, temporary, substitute, and overhire employees as assigned.
• Coordinates and oversees outside contractors, service providers, and vendors performing facilities-related work.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities Maintenance & Repair
• Continuously assess the condition, safety, cleanliness, and function of CPT facilities and identify needed maintenance or repairs.
• Develop, maintain, and implement preventive maintenance procedures and schedules.
• Complete maintenance and repairs directly when appropriate to the Facilities Manager’s skills and experience; identify when licensed or specialized contractors are required.
• Maintain interior and exterior building systems, fixtures, finishes, equipment, and grounds in collaboration with staff and vendors.
• Respond promptly to facilities emergencies and routine maintenance requests, communicating status and follow-through to the people affected.
• Operate and maintain hand and power tools safely and appropriately.
Vendor, Project & Procurement Management
• Develop strong working relationships with contractors, service providers, inspectors, and vendors.
• Obtain estimates, assess scope and value, schedule vendors, monitor work, and confirm that work is completed safely and satisfactorily.
• Oversee procurement and vendor accounts for facilities, janitorial, repair, and maintenance supplies.
• Manage facilities improvement projects and special projects, including schedules, task lists, budgets, communication, and completion.
• Support facilities-related inspections, permits, life-safety requirements, and organizational safety procedures.
Staff Leadership & Department Administration
• Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and support facilities and janitorial staff as assigned.
• Establish clear expectations, provide ongoing coaching and feedback, and conduct performance evaluations in collaboration with the General Manager.
• Train staff in safe work practices, equipment use, cleaning standards, and facilities procedures.
• Monitor department expenses; manage, code, and submit facilities-related invoices and documentation accurately and on time.
• Maintain clear records for recurring maintenance, vendors, warranties, service calls, supplies, and projects.
Cross-Department & Event Support
• Collaborate with staff on facilities needs for performances, rehearsals, rentals, community programs, and daily operations.
• Take a lead role in planning and executing the facilities and site-operations needs for CPT’s major events and festivals, including Pandemonium, SoftLaunch, Día de Muertos, and other large-scale programs.
• Develop event-specific facilities plans in collaboration with Production, Guest Experience, Programming, and other departments, identifying site needs, timelines, staffing, vendors, supplies, and areas of responsibility in advance.
• Coordinate site readiness for major events, including cleaning and custodial coverage, restrooms, public and back-of-house spaces, exterior areas, waste and recycling, temporary equipment or infrastructure, vendor access, and other facilities needs.
• During major events, serve as a primary facilities problem-solver, responding quickly to building, grounds, cleanliness, safety, access, equipment, weather-related, and other site issues as they arise.
• Coordinate post-event cleanup, breakdown, restoration, and campus reset so spaces return quickly and safely to normal operations.
• Anticipate operational needs and help solve problems before they affect artists, audiences, participants, or staff.
• Provide practical, service-oriented support to staff while balancing urgent needs, preventive work, major event preparation, and longer-term priorities.
• As occasionally needed, fill in for custodial or janitorial staff and assist with hands-on campus needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

There is no single path to this position. CPT is most interested in candidates with approximately 2-4 years of experience in facilities management, building maintenance, construction, property operations, event operations, or comparable work that has developed the skills needed for this role. If your experience does not match every item below but you believe you can succeed in the position, we encourage you to apply and tell us what prepares you for the work.
• Demonstrated experience coordinating maintenance, repair, construction, or facilities work.
• Experience supervising employees, contractors, vendors, or project teams.
• Ability to assess problems, determine next steps, organize work, and follow through to completion.
• Comfort moving between different types of projects and priorities during the course of a day.
• Clear written and verbal communication, including strong email follow-up and documentation habits.
• Comfort using computers and common business software, including Microsoft Office; ability to research products, vendors, and repair solutions online.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive for work-related errands and facilities needs.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.
• Professional experience in one or more construction trades – such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, painting, or finishes – is a plus.
• Previous theatre, arts, event, nonprofit, or multi-use facility experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
• Ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to move throughout a multi-building campus; walk, bend, reach, climb ladders, and work in a range of indoor and outdoor conditions.
• Ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to use common hand and power tools and perform hands-on maintenance work safely.
• This is an on-site position with a schedule shaped by CPT’s performance and event calendar. Evening and weekend work is required at times, particularly around performances, major events, emergencies, and other high-activity periods.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation: $44,000-$50,000 annually, depending on experience.
CPT offers a benefits package that includes:
• Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
• Short-term and long-term disability insurance.
• 401(k) retirement plan.
• Paid time off.
• Free tickets to CPT performances and events.
