JOB DESCRIPTION
Cleveland Public Theatre is seeking a part-time graphic designer to work 20 hours a week for $20 to $24 per hour. This position will be on site at the theatre; however, schedule is negotiable.
The Graphic Designer reports to the Director of Audience Engagement & Marketing mainly, but also works with other departments to create designs for digital, print including promotional postcards, programs, posters, etc. Note that Cleveland Public Theatre is home to three community ensembles including Teatro Público de Cleveland, Masrah Cleveland Al-Arabi and Cleveland CORE Ensemble; thus, graphic design projects extend to these companies as well.
The Graphic Designer will utilize existing templates and practices to develop core collateral materials for various shows and programming. There may also be opportunities to develop original design concepts for CPT’s education performances, workshop productions, and other design needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The following represents both core needs and potential duties.
• Work with the Director of Audience Engagement & Marketing and Audience Engagement & Digital Strategy Manager to develop graphics/images/illustrations and possibly stop-motion graphics, for CPT’s patron emails and website content as needed.
• Create graphics for social media across multiple platforms.
• Help to proof marketing materials.
• Create in-house displays, and other artistic initiatives.
• Design and/or layout projects including but not limited to the following:
o Postcards, flyers, brochures
o Newsletters
o T-shirt design.
o Posters
o Brochures/Programs (show, season, and annual fundraiser)
o Advertisements (CPT and sponsor)
o Image formatting for web and social media
o Invitations to events.
• Create graphics for video, social media, print, website and more.
• Hanging posters and other signage along with the Marketing Coordinator.
• Selecting and/or editing photos for use for graphic design projects.
• Contributing marketing ideas along with the AE team for promotion of shows, events, education, development and more.
• Responsible for reading plays, attending rehearsals or whatever needs to be done to get inspiration, information and ideas to complete tasks.
• Assisting and eventually taking over coordination of sending print materials to print and mailing house.
• Occasionally sending eblasts and doing social media posts upon absence of Director of Audience Engagement and Marketing Coordinator when needed.
• Sitting in on event planning meetings such as Pandemonium, SoftLaunch and more.
• Hours might shift to compensate for helping with events like Pandemonium which require extensive signage and mounting of signs.
• Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Graphic Design or related field.
• Strong layout and typography ability.
• Deadline-driven and able to manage and prioritize amongst multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Experience working with printers and mailing houses
• Experience working with other designers
• Experience with digital content creation (i.e., motion graphic development, video editing, etc.)
• Fluid in use of of InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, and Illustrator
• Large format file preparation and printing
• Ability to work alone and as part of a team.
• Ability to take directions and be open to feedback and last-minute revisions.
VALUED SKILLS BUT NOT NECESSARY
• Ability to operate a plotter.
• Ability to do animation.
• Photography
