DEADLINE TO APPLY: December 5, 2016.

Description of Position

The Director of Audience Engagement oversees CPT’s audience engagement, marketing and promotional initiatives towards the goals of building audience, expanding the reach of CPT artistic and educational programming regionally and nationwide, and engaging “the artist within all of us” through meaningful pre- and post-show exchange between CPT and our patrons. The Director of Audience Engagement reports to the Executive Artistic Director and works in collaboration with other senior staff, as well as cross-departmentally. This position is a year-round staff position. Annual pay range is competitive, commensurate with experience, and includes significant overtime pay. Some benefits included.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: The position seeks a highly-motivated, experienced theatre arts administrator with superb written and verbal communication skills, experience working with diverse communities, and a passion for theatre. Adaptability, professionalism, grace-under-pressure, imagination, willingness to embrace and incorporate feedback and fluency in MS Word, Excel, basic HTML, and various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) required. Experience with database management software and photo/video/graphic editing software strongly preferred. Experience in theatre and arts administration is a must, with a minimum of 3 years of work in professional theatre or related creative professions, consistent freelance work or equivalent. CPT primarily produces theatrical work that is outside-of-the-mainstream, so a past history of such work indicates a potentially good fit.

All positions at CPT work across departmental lines and the Director of Audience Engagement is involved in nearly all aspects of the theatre. Job responsibilities may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Manage all marketing and promotion of CPT season productions, educational and community programs.
  • Supervise a part-time Story Connector in the creation and distribution of robust, content-rich materials for CPT’s patron emails and external communications.
  • Supervise a part-time Graphic Designer in the creation of marketing materials.
  • Manage printing and distribution of print marketing materials.
  • Manage and distribute print, photo and video assets for marketing, promotional and artistic purposes.
  • Cultivate media and publicity for CPT season shows, educational and community programs.
  • Drive social media across multiple platforms.
  • Outreach and engagement for CPT community events and season shows.
  • Content creation and management of print, on air and digital advertising.
  • Audience engagement initiatives, and other duties related to audience development, such as pre- and post-show activities, receptions and special groups.
  • Represent CPT at opening weekends, community forums and promotional events.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will be collaborative, highly-motivated, eager to learn and lead, and have strong experience in administration, community programs and written communications skills across multiple platforms. Candidate must possess excellent logistics skills, creativity, a commitment to extraordinary patron experiences, plus a drive to produce measurable outcomes. Because of our track record of success we are particularly interested in candidates who are eager to support current audience engagement initiatives and ultimately move into evolving new programs.

Staff at CPT are encouraged to engage in their own artistic work and growth. CPT cares passionately about reflecting our community and pursuing diversity at all levels of the organization. CPT has a demanding working environment with long, intense hours, but we have fun and love what we do. We value hard work, kindness, generosity, passion and grace-under-pressure.

For applicants considering relocation to Cleveland: our city is an excellent community to live in, with top-notch arts and culture, a vibrant theatre scene, beautiful public parks, a great lake and VERY affordable housing.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The candidate hired for this position will conduct all above duties until CPT’s current Director of Audience Engagement & Media Relations returns from maternity leave, at which point the Audience Engagement department will consist of two full-time leaders. Specific division of duties to be determined based on the skills of both parties.

TO APPLY: Review of candidates will begin immediately and will continue until position is filled. Candidates are strongly encouraged to apply by Monday, December 5, 2016. To apply for the position, send an email to careers@cptonline.org. Subject line should read: [LAST NAME], Director of Audience Engagement. The email should include two attachments: a resume, and a cover letter describing your history, passion, why you are interested in this position, and what you have to offer (up to two pages). Candidates may be asked to provide additional materials after original application.
