CPT’s Kulas Foundation Theatre Composer Initiative

In anticipation of the renewal of this grant, CPT is now accepting applications for The Kulas Foundation Theatre Composer fellowships. The Kulas Foundation Theatre Composer Initiative is a six month fellowship program providing early-career composers with first-hand experience creating music and sound design for theatre.

This initiative engages composer/designers in a collaborative process under the guidance of the show producer and director to compose and produce original music for full productions and works-in-development in CPT’s Season and to learn about other parts of the creative and production process of theatre. Composers gain hands-on learning experiences through sound design opportunities.

The program is intended to significantly grow CPT’s capacity for developing original music and sound design, and to support the growth and emergence of local artists.

In order to ensure the development of work past this residency, both the composer and Cleveland Public Theatre will own full rights to composed materials developed through the Theatre Composer Initiative. Read More ›

Entry Point will be a weekend festival of raw art-in-progress—a platform for artists to develop new work that is in early stages of creation. Each project in Entry Point has unique needs and goals. Public presentations during the festival will range from staged readings to presenting short segments of a new work to open rehearsals of the creation process – all in different spaces throughout the CPT campus.

Cleveland Public Theatre is proud to host Brazilian muralist Ananda Nahu, who is developing a mural on site at CMHA Lakeview Terrace Estates, home to CPT’s Brick City Theatre program. Ananda is working in partnership with Cleveland-based artists Gary Williams and Robin Robinson, as well as the residents of Lakeview Terrace to conceive and implement what will be the largest mural in the state of Ohio – transforming the underpass of Route 2 into a vibrant canvas. Local and international artists working together to create public art legacy projects

CLEVELAND (Sept. 23, 2016) – By the end of 2016, the Hingetown area in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood will be home to several public-scale visual art pieces, a legacy of a unique collaboration of international and local artists who are spending the next three months living and working together through the Cleveland Foundation’s Creative Fusion program.

Launched in 2008, Creative Fusion is an international artist residency program that has brought more than 70 artists from around the world to Cleveland. This year, the program is evolving to pair a local artist with a visiting international artist at each of the host arts organizations. Each of the cohorts will also now share a single theme. CPT seeks a Development Assistant willing to join its hard-working team with the ambitious goals of growing the organization and changing the community.

Summary of Position: This position is a year round, salaried, staff position. Salary is competitive and based on experience and capacity. The Development Assistant is responsible for supporting CPT in achieving its fundraising goals with a focus on administration. Duties include donor communications, special events management, coordination of donor benefits, database management, support services for internal and external meetings, preparation of donor materials, expense processing, and filing systems maintenance.

The Development Assistant reports to the Director of Development and has the following responsibilities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Produces and/or sends donor correspondence, including thank you letters, annual appeal mailings, invoices, and cover letters
2. Manages special events – including CPT’s annual fundraiser Pandemonium – by collecting guest lists, communicating with attendees, helping to oversee the arrival and departure of guests, tracking event attendance, and overseeing volunteers as applicable
3. Coordinates all donor benefits, including program ads, signage, name listings, logo placement on publicity materials, and complimentary tickets
4. Processes company mail, enters individual donations and special event sponsorships in database, and maintains all donor information
5. Provides support for meetings (Board, fundraising task forces, etc.): scheduling, space reservation and set-up, document preparation, and catering as needed
6. Prepares and maintains donor materials, including education brochures, programming one-sheets, informational packets, and oversight of video samples
7. Processes development department expenses, and works closely with the Finance Department on numerous activities
8. Maintains electronic and hard copy filing systems, including donor profile sheets and copies of donor correspondence

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Works as a team member with the rest of the staff at special events, including community-wide and education program events
2. Attends meetings including weekly staff meetings and takes notes as necessary
3. Maintains good work habits including promptness, adherence to CPT workplace policies, preparedness for meetings and events, and responsive follow-through on all donor, supervisor, and staff requests
4. Maintains a positive attitude with donors and staff
5. Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Consistent attention to detail and accuracy
2. Ability to stay organized and meet deadlines
3. Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
4. Experience managing a database and/or other information tracking systems
5. Must enjoy people and be comfortable working with people of diverse backgrounds

9. Ability to work effectively and efficiently; to create/modify systems and processes

Auditions for Entry Point

a part of CPT’s NEW New Play Development Series

Cleveland Public Theatre is looking to cast several pieces of theatre as part of our inaugural Entry Point festival. We are looking to cast a diverse group of actors of all ages and types interested in supporting the development of a new work.

Entry Point will be a weekend festival of raw art-in-progress—a platform for artists to develop new work that is in early stages of creation. Each project in Entry Point has unique needs and goals. Public presentations during the festival will range from staged readings to presenting short segments of a new work to open rehearsals of the creation process – all in different spaces throughout the CPT campus. For example, audience members may see a staged reading in one space, then see a segment of a devised work in another space, and then close out their evening by hanging out in a casual lounge to share their experiences with fellow audience members and artists.

Auditions

When: Saturday, October 15^th and Sunday, October 16^th from 12pm-4pm
Where: CPT’s Campus (6415 Detroit Ave)

Auditions are by appointment only and will be scheduled in one hour increments. Actors will be given sides at the audition for cold readings. They should also come with one prepared contemporary monologue that they may be asked to perform. Actors may also be asked to sing a short a cappella song.  Please bring 3 copies of your headshot and resume, if available. Actors should be prepared to stay for the entire hour.

Entry Point will need the following commitment:

1. Entry Point will take place from Friday, January 20th through Sunday, January 22nd.
2. Rehearsals prior to performance vary with each Entry Point project: some may require as many as 5 weeks of rehearsal and some may require as little as 9 hours. Be prepared to share your availability on your audition form at your scheduled audition.

AEA contracts will not be considered. Non AEA actors will receive a very small stipend.

Description of Position

The Story Connector reports to the Executive Artistic Director and Director of Audience Engagement and Media Relations. This position is a year-round, part-time staff position that works an average of 25 hours a week, including occasional evenings and weekends. Pay $250/week.

The Story Connector is responsible for supporting CPT audience engagement activities and initiatives across a range of media types. CPT is seeking kick-ass writers and social media mavens with strong organizational skills and a passion for theatre.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Extraordinary written and verbal communication skills, love of grammar, adaptability, professionalism, grace-under-pressure, imagination, willingness to embrace and incorporate feedback and fluency in MS Word, Excel, basic HTML, and various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) required. Fluency with database management and photo/graphic editing software a plus. Experience in theatre is a must, with a minimum of 1 year of full-time work in professional theatre or related creative professions, 3 years of consistent freelance work or equivalent. CPT primarily produces theatrical work that is outside-of-the-mainstream, so a past history of such work indicates a potentially good fit. Read More ›
