About the play…

En el Tiempo de las Mariposas is a fictionalized account of the courageous Mirabal sisters from the Dominican Republic. The sisters inspired resistance cells throughout the country against the dictatorial regime of Gen. Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. The “butterflies,” their secret code name, were brutally murdered by the regime in 1960. En el Tiempo de las Mariposas paints a visual dreamscape of the activist sisters’ interior lives, the beauty and ferocity of the natural world and the music heard on the radio of the time. Performed in Spanish with English supertitles. Regional Premiere.

En el Tiempo de las Mariposas es una novela que relata las valerosas hermanas Mirabal de la República Dominicana. Las hermanas inspiraron células de resistencia en todo el país contra el régimen dictatorial del General Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. Las “mariposas”, su nombre de código secreto, fueron brutalmente asesinadas por el régimen en 1960. En el Tiempo de las Mariposas pinta un visual de la vida interior de las hermanas activistas, la belleza y ferocidad del mundo natural y la música que se escucha en la radio de la época.
