About the play…

En el Tiempo de las Mariposas is a fictionalized account of the courageous Mirabal sisters from the Dominican Republic. The sisters inspired resistance cells throughout the country against the dictatorial regime of Gen. Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. The “butterflies,” their secret code name, were brutally murdered by the regime in 1960. En el Tiempo de las Mariposas paints a visual dreamscape of the activist sisters’ interior lives, the beauty and ferocity of the natural world and the music heard on the radio of the time. This winter, Executive Artistic Director Raymond Bobgan will hold a free, 3 day Research and Development open session in an effort to further his work and broaden the pool of diverse artists involved in this exciting work. This 3 day workshop will both explore Raymond’s unique approach to devised theatre and serve as an opportunity for Raymond and artists to get to know each other’s work better for potential future projects.

CPT is focused on new work that is surprising, unexpected and somehow outside the realm of conventional theatre.

CPT is looking for proposals from Northeast Ohio artists for complete projects. Proposals may be for world premieres, second or third US productions, radical re-envisioning of classic plays or other projects. The show could be your own show or a script you would like to work on.
